‘Jorge Martín has the chance to win the title tomorrow, but everything can change.’ – Enea Bastianini

Jorge Martín has his first chance to become MotoGP world champion this Sunday – needing only to score nine points more than Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) in the main race of the Malaysian GP to secure the title.

A win with Bagnaia finishing third would be enough, and it wouldn’t be an unusual result combination. However, the title will only be officially awarded once it’s mathematically confirmed.

Enea Bastianini (Ducati), one of the contenders to win in Sepang, emphasized that nothing is guaranteed and mistakes can happen: ‘I think Jorge has the chance to win the title tomorrow, but in this world, everything can change. It’s easy to make a mistake on this track, because the temperature is too high, and we are very much on the limit every lap. And tomorrow we will have 20 laps. I have to do the best race possible, and if I can win, I am going to win’.

When asked if trying not to interfere or harm the title contenders in any way affects him, Bastianini denied it: ‘No, because my standard is always to push, and not think a lot about the situation in the championship standings. Jorge and Pecco are fighting for the championship, and it’s normal that I don’t want to make a mistake with those guys. But we are competing, and it will be normal if we fight’.
