The outbreak of cold is continuously increasing in entire Purvanchal including Varanasi. Due to western disturbance, the temperature is falling. According to meteorologists, there are little chances of getting relief from cold and fog till January 15.
Varanasi. With the beginning of the new year, winter has further strengthened its hold in the atmosphere of Purvanchal. In Varanasi and surrounding districts, the chill of the morning and the severe cold of the late night are taking a toll on people’s daily routine. The effect of cold is clearly visible from the streets to the ghats, where people are forced to resort to bonfires and warm clothes. Meteorologists say that at present there is no sign of relief from the cold.
Western disturbance became the main reason for cold
According to weather experts, due to the active western disturbance, the temperature is continuously falling. Professor Manoj Kumar Srivastava of the Department of Geophysics said that the drop in temperature in the last two-three days is the effect of this seasonal system. The cold is being felt more intensely with cold winds.

Effect of cold may last till January 15
Experts say that another western disturbance is likely to become active soon. In between, there may be slight relief for one or two days, but after this the cold will increase again. Looking at the current situation, this cold wave is expected to continue till January 15.

Due to increasing cold, people are resorting to bonfire, warm clothes and hot beverages. Doctors have advised the elderly, children and women to take special precautions, as the risk of cold-related diseases increases in this season.
Situation worsened in surrounding districts also
Along with Varanasi, the temperature is continuously falling in Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Chandauli, Sonbhadra and Prayagraj. Cold winds and dense fog have affected life. Visibility is decreasing significantly in the morning, due to which traffic problems have increased.
Dense fog and cold are increasing the problems of people in Prayagraj. Due to low visibility the speed of vehicles has slowed down. People going out for daily work say that the effect of cold is now clearly felt on the body and hands and legs have started becoming numb.
The Meteorological Department has advised to remain alert in the coming days also, because this cold period in Purvanchal may become more challenging.
