A case of alleged fake birth certificate being issued has come to light in Jhinjhak CHC of Kanpur Dehat. Investigation has started into the allegations of making a certificate despite the name not being in the hospital records. Know the entire matter and the response of the administration.
Questions on the credibility of government documents become more serious when alleged irregularities are found in birth certificates, which are considered the most important basis of identity. A case related to Jhinjhak Community Health Center (CHC) in Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh is now under investigation, where it is alleged that birth certificates were issued to many people despite their birth not being registered in the hospital records.
Large number of certificates issued in a single month
The matter came to light when the computer operator of CHC lodged a complaint in this regard. As per available documents, 34 birth certificates were issued on 9 February 2026 and 38 birth certificates were issued on 17 February 2026. The years of birth recorded in these certificates are from 2010 to 2026. The biggest question is that no record of the people in whose names the certificates were issued was found in the birth register of the hospital. In such a situation, serious questions are being raised on the process of issuing certificates.
Names of people from many districts included
Documents show that in the 34 certificates issued on February 9, most of the beneficiaries were from Kanpur Dehat, while some names also included from Auraiya, Kannauj, Kanpur Nagar, Hardoi and Rae Bareli. Similarly, in the 38 certificates issued on February 17, apart from Kanpur Dehat, names of people from Auraiya, Kanpur Nagar, Kannauj and Jalaun are also mentioned. Due to this the scope of investigation has further increased.
Why is this matter serious?
Birth certificate is considered the first official identification of any citizen. On the basis of this document, Aadhar card, school admission, passport and many government schemes are availed. If birth certificates are issued without valid records, it may impact the entire document verification system.
What do the rules say?
According to the rules of the Health Department, if a child is born in a government hospital, the birth certificate can be issued from there within a year. If more than one year passes, the process of making the certificate is completed from the tehsil level.
Inquiry ordered, report awaited
Chief Medical Officer Jai Govind said that complaints have been received about alleged fake birth certificates being issued in Jhinjhak and Maitha CHC. It is being investigated whether the people whose certificates were made were actually born in the respective hospitals or not. Meanwhile, District Magistrate Kapil Singh said that a report on the matter has been sought from the CMO. Nodal officer and CHC superintendent have been instructed to investigate. If any negligence or irregularity of any officer or employee is revealed in the investigation, then action will be taken as per rules.
