Call Center Fraud India: Police busted a sensational marriage fraud racket in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. During the raid in Bhatipur, the police arrested 19 girls working in two call centres. Investigation revealed that these girls were duping unmarried youth in the name of marriage.
How many people were cheated in the name of marriage?
According to the police, more than 1500 unmarried youths from Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh became victims of fraud through this racket. These youths were sent photographs and bio-data of fake girls and demanded money from them.
What was the role of the girls?
17 girls used to talk to young men by presenting themselves as brides. The main operators of the call center were Rakhi Gaur (24) and Sita alias Sheetal Chauhan (26). These women used to charge registration fees of Rs 3 to 5 thousand from the youth and then arrange fake conversations in packages of Rs 5 to 10 thousand.
Was it just a money scam or a deeper plan?
Investigation revealed that employees in the call center were prohibited from making video calls. The reason for this was that the pictures of the girls whom the young men wanted to marry were as beautiful as heroines, whereas the girls calling were not that beautiful. Therefore fake photos and biodata were used.
Distribution of money and salaries of employees
The girls working in the call center used to get a salary of Rs 5-6 thousand. Apart from this, they were also given 10 percent incentive for cheating. The data and information of unmarried youth was made available from different websites and marriage bureaus by a person named Tileshwar Patel.
Police action and now questions in everyone’s mind
SSP Dharamveer Singh said that after receiving the information, the police raided Bhatipur and busted the racket. This case shows how easily fraud can be done in the name of marriage and love. Any youth can be made a victim if they are not careful on social media and online dating platforms. The police have taken strict action in this matter, but society and families also need to remain alert.
