UP Assembly by-election: 5 candidates withdrew names, now 90 candidates will contest elections

Five candidates have withdrawn their nominations for the by-elections to be held on November 13 on nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. The Election Commission gave this information. After withdrawal of nominations, now a total of 90 candidates are left in the fray. The candidates who have withdrawn include two from Kundarki seat (Jaiveer Singh and Brijanand – both independent), Shah Mohammad Rana from Mirapur (independent), Mohammad Aftab Sharif from Sisamau (Rashtravadi Jantantrik Party), and Krishnavati from Katehari (National Partnership). Let us tell you that the Election Commission had issued a notification for the upcoming assembly by-election on October 18. According to the commission, the scrutiny of nomination papers was completed on October 28, and the last date for withdrawal of nominations was October 30. Voting will take place on November 13, while counting of votes has been scheduled for November 23.

Determination of seats after investigation

The Election Commission had announced by-elections on nine seats of UP on October 15, in which Milkipur (Ayodhya) seat was kept out of the process due to the pending case in the court. This time by-elections are being held on the seats of Katehari (Ambedkar Nagar), Karhal (Mainpuri), Mirapur (Muzaffarnagar), Ghaziabad, Majhwan (Mirzapur), Sisamau (Kanpur Nagar), Khair (Aligarh), Phulpur (Prayagraj) and Kundarki (Moradabad). . Of these, eight seats were vacant after the MLAs were elected as MPs in the Lok Sabha elections, while by-election is being held on Sisamau seat due to the disqualification of SP MLA Irfan Solanki. Irfan Solanki was convicted in a criminal case.

A total of 149 nominations were filed so far, including Meerapur (34), Kundarki (19), Ghaziabad (19), Khair (6), Karhal (10), Sisamau (11), Phulpur (19), Katehari (14). , and Majhwan (17). After scrutiny, 95 nominations were found valid, and after withdrawal of nominations, 90 candidates are in the fray on nine seats.

Congress took a big step

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for eight of these nine seats, while leaving one seat for its ally Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD). Earlier on Thursday, Congress had announced that it will not field its candidates in the by-elections to be held on these nine assembly seats and will extend unconditional cooperation to ensure the victory of SP candidates or other ‘India’ alliance parties.
This decision of Congress has come a day after the statement of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, in which he had said that all the candidates of ‘India’ alliance will contest the by-elections on SP’s election symbol ‘cycle’.
