When will banks remain closed in January 2026?

1 January- There will be holiday in Kolkata, Aizawl, Chennai, Gangtok, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima and Shillong on the occasion of New Year Day and singing.

2 January- There will be bank holiday in Thiruvananthapuram, Aizawl and Kochi on New Year celebration and Mannam Jayanti.

3 January- Banks will remain closed in Lucknow on the birthday of Hazrat Ali.

4th January- Weekly holiday in banks across the country on Sunday.

10th January- Banks will remain closed across the country on the second Saturday of the month.

11th January- Sunday is a weekly holiday in banks across the country.

12th January- There will be no work in banks in Kolkata on the occasion of Vivekananda Jayanti.

14 January- Banks closed in Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati and Itanagar on Makar Sankranti and Magh Bihu.

15th January- Banks will remain closed in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Vijayawad, Chennai and Gangtok on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Maghe Sankranti, Uttarayan Punyakal and Pongal.

16 January- There will be no work in banks in Chennai on Thiruvalluvar Day.

17 January- There will be no work in banks in Chennai on the occasion of Uzhavar Thirunal.

18th January- Banks will remain closed across the country on Sunday.

23 January- Banks will remain closed in Kolkata, Agartala and Bhubaneswar on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti and Saraswati Puja i.e. Basant Panchami.

24th January- Banks will remain closed across the country on the fourth Saturday.

25th January- Weekly holiday across the country due to Sunday.

26 January- On the occasion of Republic Day, there will be holiday everywhere except Kanpur, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Dehradun and Srinagar.

Will your work come to a halt if banks are closed?

The good thing is that despite bank branches remaining closed, digital banking services will remain fully operational. Facilities like UPI transactions, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS, cash withdrawal from ATM, mobile and internet banking will not be affected by the holidays. However, check clearance, draft, locker and branch-visit work will not be possible during holidays.
