The story of Singham Again draws parallels with the Hindu epic Ramayana, and the Diwali release makes the film grander than ever. However, as the trailer was released online, a section of the audience wondered if director Rohit Shetty and his team added the Ramayana part to the story to cash in on the Diwali buzz.
In an interview now, writer-director Milap Zaveri opened up on the same.
Milap, who is one of the writers on Singham Again, mentioned in an interview with Siddharth Kanan on YouTube, that . He shared that even when the film was initially planned to hit the screens on August 15, Independence Day, the story was designed to draw a parallel with the characters of Ramayana.
He stated in the interview, “The story is by Kshitij Patwardhan. When Kshitij met Rohit, he already had this thought, that what if we married Ramayana with the Singham cop universe and created this story? I think Rohit loved it.”
The writer added that it’s simply a coincidence for a film like Singham Again with Ramayana reference to release during the Diwali festivities. “This film was originally going to release on August 15, which has nothing to do with Diwali. The film was delayed at the shooting stage, so it just so happened that we are now releasing on Diwali with a film that has Ramayana in it. This is a co-incidence. We haven’t added Ramayana to encash Diwali. Ramayan was in the script right from the start, even when we were not coming to theatres on Diwali,” he explained.
“Singham Again is better than the other Singhams on the script level”
Milap also asserted that the story of Singham Again is better than the other films in the cop franchise. He said the addition of Ramayana gives a strong edge to the film which is unbeatable. “On the script level, 1000 per cent. I have yet to watch the final film, but on the script level, it is 100 per cent better than the other Singhams. The emotion of Ramayana that Rohit has brought into the script is beautiful. It is going to create a place in every Indian’s heart,” he mentioned.
Singham Again re-imagines Ajay Devgn’s Bajirao Singham and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Avni as Lord Ram and Sita, respectively. It sees its Laxman in Tiger Shroff’s character and Lord Hanuman in Ranveer Singh’s Simmba. The film also stars Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor and Jackie Shroff, among others, in important roles. It has a special cameo by Salman Khan who reprises his cop character, Chlubul Pandey from Dabangga, towards the end of the film.
