New Delhi: India’s Deepti Sharma has been rewarded for her excellent performance recently in the 50-over format of the game as she jumped two places to reach career-high second position in the latest ICC ODI rankings for bowlers.
With some strong performances especially in the women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE, Deepti continued her excellence in the ongoing 50-over series against New Zealand women which got her this reward.
The ace off-spinner picked three wickets from two matches against the White Ferns at an economy rate of just 3.42, which helped her gain crucial points. The Indian spinner has thus closed in on number one ranked women’s ODI bowler Sophie Ecclestone.
Players outside top 10 also fly high
Some of the players outside the top 10 including New Zealand trio of Lea Tahuhu (three places to 12th), Amelie Kerr (up one spot to 13th) and Sophie Devine (Nine places to equal 30th) have also made significant gains in the latest ICC rankings list, because of their recent success at the T20 World Cup.
Both Devine (up three rungs to eighth) and Kerr (up one spot to 11th) have also gained ground on the latest list for ODI batters, with with compatriots Suzie Bates (up two spots to equal 15th) and Maddy Green (up seven places to 18th) making gains following some decent scores against India.
Harmanpreet Kaur slips
In the batters rankings, India women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur has slipped three places to move outside the top 10 rankings. Harmnapreet missed the first ODI due to a niggle while scored just 24 in the second. As a result, she’s now placed on the 12th position in the batting rankings. Meanwhile, right-hander Jemimah Rodrigues (up three rungs to equal 30th) is the big winner on the ODI batter rankings from an India perspective, while Deepti (up one place to third) and Devine (up two spots to seventh) both make some ground on the latest list for ODI all-rounders.
