The left-hander achieved a milestone to smash 1000 sixes while playing for Kings XI Punjab (now known as Punjab Kings) in an IPL 2020 fixture against Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi on October 30, 2020. Chris Gayle fell short of his century by just one run as the left-hander got out in the last over after scoring 99 runs off 63 balls, with six fours and eight sixes. With this, Gayle also crossed 1000 sixes in his T20 career becoming to first batter to achieve this milestone. However, his knock went in vain as RR chased the target in 17.3 overs losing three wickets with Ben Stokes top scoring with 50(26).
