When government schemes start showing impact on the ground, their figures start telling their own story. The figures of admission in private schools under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act (RTE) in Uttar Pradesh indicate the same. The result of the policies and transparent system of Yogi government is that till now in the year 2025-26, more than 1.40 lakh children have got admission in private schools, which is considered to be a big record so far.
Admissions more than doubled in five years
In a written reply to a question asked in the Assembly, Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh said that in the last five years, the number of children getting admission in private schools under RTE has more than doubled. While 61,403 children got admission in the session 2021-22, this number increased to 70,406 in 2022-23. In the session 2023-24, 1,00,249 children benefited, while in 2024-25, 1,13,991 children took admission in private schools. 25 percent seats reserved, transparency increased through online process
The Basic Education Minister said that under the RTE Act, 25 percent seats in unaided recognized private schools are reserved for children of economically weaker and deprived sections. The application process is completely online, ensuring transparency in selection and allotment. School-wise allocation is done on the basis of applications received and seats available and children are admitted accordingly.
Emphasis on connecting deprived children with quality education
The government has a clear objective that children from economically weaker and socially deprived sections should also get the opportunity of quality education in private schools. The Basic Education Minister said that the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is giving priority to inclusive education, so that every child gets equal opportunities and social distance can be reduced through education.
The continuously increasing admissions under RTE are indicating that access to education in the state is not limited only to government schools, but private schools are also now opening doors of new opportunities for the children of deprived sections.
