Bangladesh summoned Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Verma over the security of its missions in India. Bangladesh strongly condemned the demonstrations and vandalism by Hindu organizations in Delhi and Siliguri and demanded increased security.
New Delhi. Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Verma over the security of Bangladeshi missions. This step was taken when Hindu organizations recently demonstrated outside Bangladeshi missions in New Delhi and Siliguri, West Bengal. People of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other Hindu organizations staged a massive protest outside the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi against the violence against Hindus in Bangladesh and the mob lynching of Dipu Chandra Das. The protesters tried to break the barricade, following which the police had to resort to lathi charge to bring the situation under control.
What did the Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh say?
“Bangladesh condemns such acts of deliberate violence or intimidation against diplomatic institutions, which not only jeopardize the safety of staff, but also undermine the principles of mutual respect and the values of peace and tolerance,” Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 23.
Continuous attacks on Bangladeshi missions
According to External Affairs Ministry sources, Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Verma has been summoned over the security situation of Bangladeshi missions in India. He was also instructed to tighten the security of all embassies. Bangladesh says that the situation is worrying due to the demonstration outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on 20 December, the vandalism at the Bangladesh Visa Center in Siliguri on 22 December and the demonstration outside the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi on 23 December.
