Ramnagar: Uttarakhand’s Ramanagar has witnessed a serious case of cyber fraud that has left a family shaken. A child was playing a video game on his mobile phone when hackers managed to steal Rs 2 lakh from his father’s bank accounts. To add to the shock, the fraudsters even ordered food worth Rs 608 from Zomato using the stolen money.
The victim, Aamir Ahmed Saifi, a resident of Friends Colony on Telipura Road, said the incident happened on Sunday. His son was busy playing a mobile game when suddenly a series of bank messages started arriving on his phone. The first message showed that Rs 1 lakh had been withdrawn from his Axis Bank account. Soon after, another message informed him that Rs 1 lakh had been taken from his Indian Overseas Bank account.
Hackers had cloned his mobile phone
Alarmed by these sudden transactions, Aamir Ahmed immediately contacted both banks and closed his accounts. But before he could recover from the shock, another message arrived. This time it was about a Zomato order worth Rs 608. He suspected that hackers had cloned his mobile phone or hacked his Google Pay account.
The victim rushed to Ramnagar police station and gave a written complaint. Police officers advised him to file the case with the cyber crime cell. Later, Aamir Ahmed registered the complaint on the national cyber crime portal. He has appealed to the authorities to help him recover the stolen money.
Cyber Crime Cell has started investigating the case
Police have said the matter is being taken seriously. The Cyber Crime Cell has started investigating the case. They are checking mobile apps, suspicious links, and transaction details to trace the fraud.
Officials have also issued a warning to the public. They advised parents to be careful before giving mobile phones to children. Downloading unknown games or clicking suspicious links can expose phones to hackers. Police urged people to immediately report any unusual transactions to their banks and the cybercrime helpline. Cyber experts say fraudsters often target mobile gaming apps and payment platforms to steal sensitive information.
