Yogi government’s supplementary budget has given new impetus to scholarship, disabled empowerment and social welfare schemes. Inclusive development has been strengthened by additional grants for OBC, Scheduled Caste-Tribe, elderly people and marriage of girls.

To give new impetus to social justice and inclusive development in Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath government has strengthened social welfare schemes through supplementary budget. By provision of additional funds in important areas like scholarship, health, marriage assistance and empowerment of the disabled, the government has indicated that the upliftment of the deprived sections is at the top of its priority.

Special focus on social welfare department

Provisions have been made in the supplementary budget to ensure payment of scholarships and fee reimbursement for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Class (OBC) students. The aim of the government is that no student’s education should be interrupted due to financial reasons.

Health services got a big boost

An additional provision of Rs 15.46 crore has been made for standard items in various medical colleges and institutions for Scheduled Castes. Along with this, a supplementary grant of Rs 1223.55 crore has been given for Scheduled Castes under the National Rural Health Mission, so that health services in rural areas can be further strengthened. A separate provision of Rs 11.40 crore has also been made to maintain continuity of rural health services.

OBC scholarship schemes will get continuous benefits

An additional provision of about Rs 362 crore has been made for the residual payment of the year 2024–25 for the OBC students studying in classes after 10th in all the government, aided and recognized educational institutions of the state and for the eligible students of the year 2025–26. With this, scholarship schemes will continue without any interruption.

Emphasis on marriage assistance and hostel construction

In the supplementary budget, an additional provision of Rs 32 crore has been made for the marriage of daughters of poor employees of other backward classes. Apart from this, an additional provision of Rs 2 crore has been proposed for the construction of hostels in educational institutions for OBC category students.

Support to the elderly and mass marriage schemes

Under Atal Vayo Abhyudaya Yojana, a provision of Rs 5.59 crore has been made with the aim of providing social security and dignified life to the elderly. At the same time, by making an additional provision of Rs 200 crore for the Chief Minister Mass Marriage Scheme, the government has tried to provide greater social support to the poor families.

Concrete steps towards empowerment of disabled people

An additional amount of Rs 1 crore has been made available for hardware, software and connectivity for running e-office in the subordinate offices of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. An additional provision of Rs 5.43 crore has been made to Dr. Shakuntala Mishra National Rehabilitation University as grant-in-aid on various items. Along with this, an additional provision of Rs 6 crore has been made to develop a barrier-free and accessible environment for the disabled in government and public utility buildings.

Government’s message towards inclusive development

These provisions made in the supplementary budget make it clear that the Yogi government is not limited to just announcing schemes, but is also committed to their effective implementation. From scholarships to health, marriage assistance and empowerment of the disabled, this budget is being considered a strong step towards the integrated and inclusive development of the state.
