Mental Health Tips: Do you like living alone, is it right or wrong? Psychiatrist told

habit of being alone

We don’t realize when we get surrounded by mental stress due to busy life and burden of responsibilities. There is no chance to take a break in this fast-paced life. There are many people in the country who do not even know that they are suffering from stress. Sometimes people become so upset that they start liking being alone. Is living alone good for our body and mind? TV9 had a special conversation with Dr. Ajay Dogra (Consultant Psychiatrist, Kailash Hospital, Noida) on this topic.

He says that in today’s fast-paced life, many people like to spend time alone. But the question often arises whether liking to be alone is normal or can it be a sign of some mental problem.

What do experts say

Experts say that in fact, liking to be alone is a completely normal behavior in itself. For many people, it is a healthy way of introspection, maintaining mental peace and emotional balance. By spending time alone, such people understand themselves better, reduce stress and feel energetic again.

When does this nature become a problem?

Experts say that if some changes are felt or visible then living alone should not be considered normal.

  1. Some people start avoiding meeting people continuously.
  2. Maintain complete distance from social activities.
  3. Lose interest in relationships.
  4. Due to loneliness, one started feeling sadness, disappointment and lack of enthusiasm towards life.

If this kind of behavior is being adopted continuously then it can be a sign of some mental health related problem. In such cases, it is important to understand whether the person is living alone voluntarily or is isolating himself due to circumstances and mental stress.

Experts say that it is very important to understand the difference between healthy solitude and harmful social isolation. If the habit of living alone is not affecting your daily routine, work, relationships and emotional health, then there is no need to worry. But if this behavior continues for a long time and starts affecting the quality of life, then it would be appropriate to consult a mental health expert.

Reduce stress in these ways

If you like to be alone then it is good to spend time with yourself. But being cut off from family is also wrong. Take out time for family also so that relationships can become stronger.

Take a short walk while you are alone. Spending time doing this in nature and in an open environment naturally calms the mind. Therefore, walking for a few minutes daily is necessary.

You can also calm your mind through yoga. Yoga asanas like Bhramari Pranayam, Balasana and Setubandhasana calm our mind instantly. When mental health is good, people like to spend time with their loved ones.
