What is special about Paraiba Tourmaline?
Paraiba Tourmaline is considered one of the rarest and brightest gemstones in the world. It is definitely part of the tourmaline family, but its neon-like blue-green glow makes it stand out. The reason for its special color is the copper and manganese elements present in it, which give it a glowing look from inside. Sometimes its price is more than that of diamonds. This precious stone was discovered in 1989 by miner Demas Barbosa in the Brazilian state of Paraiba. After a long period of digging they found this unique blue-green tourmaline, which was later named Paraíba Tourmaline. Jewelery collectors also recognize it by the name of ‘swimming blue’ color.

Why is Brazilian Paraiba the most valuable?
After the popularity of Paraiba Tourmaline increased, similar stones were found in Mozambique and Nigeria, but the original Paraiba Tourmaline found in Brazil is still considered the most valuable. The original mines of Brazil are now almost exhausted, so these gems have become extremely rare today. For this reason, Brazilian Paraiba tourmalines are now only found by private collectors or as reused stones from vintage jewelry. Nita Ambani also has this precious stone.
