Speaking to ANI, Tagore said, “We are very clear that Tamil Nadu Congress is on the path of rebuilding our organization in the state, and for the first time we have got a share in power, and Tamil Nadu Congress has become active again in the state.” He said the party currently has two ministers in the state and “people have a lot of expectations”. “We have two ministers, and people have a lot of expectations from us, and there is discrimination against Tamil Nadu from the Central government. So, we are in the process of creating a narrative and a clear path through which we will be able to tell people that Rahul Gandhi is the option people should support, and we all know that Rahul Gandhi has more appeal in Tamil Nadu and especially, we need to win more seats from Tamil Nadu in the 2029 elections,” he told ANI. We have started our preparations for 2029.”

Alliance and target of winning 40 seats

Earlier on Sunday, Tagore had said the party unit will work with alliance partner TVK and Chief Minister Vijay to strengthen the alliance at the grassroots level and the primary agenda is to win all 40 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the next Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to ANI, Tagore described his task as challenging and said the party will work towards forming an India Bloc government in Delhi in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. He said, “I thank Congress President Kharge ji, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi for entrusting me with the responsibility of Tamil Nadu Congress President; it is a very challenging task. We have to work together, with our new alliance partner, TVK and Chief Minister Vijay, to ensure that the alliance wins at the grassroots level and garners more support.” He said, “Parliamentary elections are to be held in 2029. Our primary agenda for these elections will be to win all 40 seats in Tamil Nadu (and Puducherry). The alliance comprising TVK, Congress, Left parties and VCK is a very strong alliance in the state, and we are hopeful that more parties will join it… We will work towards winning more parliamentary seats and forming a secular government in Delhi — an India coalition government.”

Political scenario of Tamil Nadu

Manickam Tagore was appointed the president of Tamil Nadu Congress on Saturday. There has been a change in the political scenario of Tamil Nadu after TVK emerged as the largest party in the assembly elections.
