Police have recovered a pistol and three cartridges from the rented house of Ram Kanojia, one of the accused arrested for the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar) leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddiqui in Mumbai. The officer said that Kanojia was living in a rented house in Palaspe area of Panvel town of Raigarh district on the outskirts of Mumbai for the last one year.
The 43-year-old accused, arrested by Mumbai Police last week, was part of a group that allegedly provided arms and other assistance to the attackers in the Siddiqui murder case.
Shot dead on October 12
Siddiqui (66), a three-time MLA and former state minister, was shot dead by three gunmen in Mumbai’s Bandra area on October 12. So far, 14 people, including two shooters, have been arrested from different places in connection with this high-profile murder. During interrogation it was revealed that the accused had more weapons. The officer said that after this the Crime Branch team raided Kanojia’s rented house and recovered a pistol and three cartridges.

He told that the Crime Branch extracted data from the mobile phones of the accused including Gurnail Singh and Dharamraj Kashyap, in which they found pictures of weapons. He said that the police interrogated the arrested accused and based on the information given by them, conducted raids at various places including Pune. Meanwhile, the police on Thursday recorded the statement of Baba Siddiqui’s MLA son Zeeshan Siddiqui as part of the investigation into the case. The former minister was attacked near his son’s office, in which he died.
