Will Darbar Move be restored in Jammu and Kashmir? Pressure is building on Omar government, Farooq Abdullah said – let the assembly begin

The Omar Abdullah government of Jammu and Kashmir is now under pressure to restore the Darbar move. This issue was also in the election manifesto of National Conference. If sources are to be believed, Omar’s government is preparing to restore the 150 year old Darbar Move tradition in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources associated with the ministry said that a decision on the restoration of the Darbar Move tradition may be taken in the next cabinet meeting of the Abdullah government.

The logic behind the resumption of Darbar Move is that its closure has had a negative impact on business in Jammu. Jammu needs Darbar move. The 152-year-old tradition of changing the capital between Srinagar and Jammu in Jammu and Kashmir was ended by LG Manoj Sinha in June 2021.

What is Darbar Move?

The tradition of Darbar Move was started in the year 1872 by Dogra Maharaja Ranbir Singh of Jammu and Kashmir. The capital was shifted to Srinagar in summer and Jammu in winter. This was done to avoid severe cold and severe heat. Due to transfer of the capital, there was a parallel trade in both Srinagar and Jammu for 6 months.

Omar promised

Baramulla MP Engineer Rasheed led a peaceful protest in Srinagar on Friday. In this he demanded the restoration of Darbar Move. Rasheed reminded Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that he had promised to resolve the issue. If the government does not pay attention to this then disappointment among the people will increase.

The Baramulla MP has demanded that either the Darbar move should be restored or Srinagar should be made the permanent capital of Jammu and Kashmir. In this matter, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah said that let the government handle the assembly which has not started yet. After that it will be seen what is brought back.

It is not right to restore the Darbar move.

In this matter, General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir BJP Ashok Kol says that it is not right to restore the Darbar move. The practice which has been going on for the last 4 years should remain the same. Let us tell you that Darbar will not move this winter because DAD has issued an order. It said that only administrative secretaries and union territory level department heads will be transferred from Srinagar to Jammu from November 11. Civil Secretariat will remain in Srinagar.
