According to reports, after the death of Usman Hadi, his sister can now contest elections from Dhaka-8 parliamentary constituency in Bijoynagar. Let us tell you that Sharif Usman Hadi was shot on the head by an unknown assailant during the election campaign on 12th December. Hadi was taken to Singapore for treatment, where he died on the night of 18 December. Anti-Hindu violence started in Bangladesh after the news of Hadi’s death. During this time, 27-year-old Dipu Chandra Das, a resident of Mymensingh, was beaten to death by a mob of Islamic fundamentalists, accusing him of blasphemy. Later, Deepu’s body was stripped, tied to a tree and burnt.

After the assassination of Usman Hadi, on Monday 22 December, another student leader Muttalib Sikdar was shot dead by an unknown assailant in Bangladesh. The bullet entered from one side of his ear and pierced the skin and exited from the other side. Sikdar was immediately taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where his condition is out of danger. Two days before this, a mob attacked the Lakshmipur house of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Bilal Hossain, in which his 7-year-old daughter Ayesha Akhtar was burnt alive. In this accident, his two other daughters, 16 year old Salma Akhtar and 14 year old Samia Akhtar, were badly burnt.
