He has demanded the immediate firing of the doctor who attacked the patient. The incident took place at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) hospital in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. This incident happened last Sunday. Responding to this, State Health Minister Colonel Dhani Ram Shandil has assured of strict action against the accused. According to the victim patient, the doctor spoke rudely to him. When the patient asked him to speak respectfully, the doctor attacked him. People present with the patient told that a video of this incident had been recorded, which is now going viral on social media.
As soon as the video went viral, the patient’s family members and their supporters gathered in the hospital premises and started demanding immediate arrest and suspension of the accused doctor. Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil said that such behavior of doctors cannot be tolerated and is completely against the ethical values of the medical profession. The doctor who brutally attacked the patient has been identified as Dr. Saar, who is an expert in lung diseases. Senior officials of the hospital said that they have been issued summons in connection with this incident.
The minister said, “Such behavior of doctors will not be tolerated. The Health Secretary, Medical Superintendent and Principal of IGMC have been called for questioning in this matter. A detailed investigation will be conducted and strict steps will be taken to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.”
Medical Superintendent and Principal of IGMC summoned
As part of government action, the medical superintendent and principal of IGMC have been called to the secretariat in connection with the matter. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and leader of opposition Jai Ram Thakur has termed the incident as unfortunate and worrying. He said such incidents raise serious concerns about professional conduct in government health institutions. Thakur has urged the Chief Minister to pay personal attention to this matter and order an impartial investigation. Besides, he has also sought to direct the IGMC administration to take security measures to prevent such incidents in future. The hospital administration has not yet given any detailed statement on these allegations. The matter is still under investigation.
