Former Punjab IG Amar Singh Chahal shot himself after online fraud of Rs 8 crore. He has left a suicide note, which mentions fraud. He is seriously injured and admitted to the hospital.
Patiala: Former Inspector General of Police of Punjab, Amar Singh Chahal has attempted suicide by shooting himself with the revolver of his security guard. He took the step after writing a 12-page note about online fraud of over Rs 8 crore. This incident took place in Patiala, Punjab, in which he was seriously injured. He was immediately admitted to the city’s Park Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

According to police sources, before shooting himself with the gun of his own security guard, Amar Singh Chahal had written a 12-page death note. The letter, addressed to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, refers to online fraud of Rs 8.10 crore. Chahal was living in Patiala after retiring from the post of Punjab IG. Patiala SSP Varun Sharma said that after receiving information about the firing, police teams reached Chahal’s house for help. Retired IG Amar Singh Chahal was also an accused in the 2015 Faridkot sacrilege and Kotkapura firing cases. Two civilians were killed in this incident.
In connection with this case, on February 24, 2023, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Punjab Police had filed a charge sheet in the Faridkot court. This SIT was headed by the then ADGP L.K. Yadav did it. According to the report, the names of many big politicians and senior police officers were included in this charge sheet. These included former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, his son and former Home Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, IG Paramraj Singh Umranangal, former DIG Amar Singh Chahal, former SSP Sukhminder Singh Mann and SSP Charanjit Singh Sharma. Now officials will investigate the details given in the death note written by the former IG.
