Couple gets Rs 2.50 lakh for marrying outside caste
Even today, it is not easy to marry outside the caste in many parts of the country. Social pressure, economic insecurity and family opposition become big challenges in front of such relationships. To change this thinking and to strengthen the couples doing inter-caste marriages, the Uttar Pradesh government is running a special scheme, under which direct government assistance of Rs 2.5 lakh is given to the couples getting married.

What is the special plan of the government to break the caste wall in marriage?
Dr. Ambedkar Social Harmony Intercaste Marriage Scheme has been implemented to promote inter-caste marriage in Uttar Pradesh. The objective of this scheme is not only to provide financial help but also to strengthen the thinking of equality and brotherhood in the society. The government believes that only when relationships are built beyond caste, social discrimination will weaken.

Who gets the benefit of inter-caste marriage scheme?
Only those couples can avail the benefit of this scheme in which one of the husband or wife belongs to Scheduled Caste (SC). Marriage must be legally registered and this registration must be done under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. It is necessary to apply within one year after marriage.

How does the couple get Rs 2.5 lakh after inter caste marriage?
The government does not give the entire amount at once. The first Rs 1.5 lakh is transferred directly to the joint bank account of the husband and wife. The remaining Rs 1 lakh is kept in a 3-year fixed deposit (FD), so that financial support can be provided in future.

Where and how to apply for Rs 2.5 lakh after marriage?
Interested couples have to apply online by visiting the official website of Social Welfare Department of Uttar Pradesh Government. While filling the form, information related to marriage, caste and bank has to be entered carefully. During the application, it is mandatory to upload marriage certificate, caste certificate, proof of first marriage, affidavit, income certificate, details of joint bank account. After successful application, an Acknowledgment Receipt is also issued.
