New Delhi [भारत]June 30 (ANI): Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Tuesday paid tribute to former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma on his death anniversary. He described Verma as a visionary leader whose contributions to the capital’s metro network, educational institutions, hospitals and rural infrastructure continue to shape Delhi’s development even today. Sirsa told reporters, “He served Delhi with the same purity and devotion that a son serves his mother. The metro system that we see in Delhi today, the community centers and hospitals in every village, and the schools, colleges and universities established by him, he was truly a visionary leader of an era. His greatness still lingers like a fragrance in Delhi. That is why on his death anniversary, people come from every corner – from rural areas and the entire city – to pay homage to him.”
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari also paid tribute to the former Chief Minister and said that the development in Delhi during Verma’s tenure is still considered exemplary. He told reporters, “The development that Delhi saw under his leadership and the confidence that he instilled in the city – especially during his tenure as Chief Minister – remains an example even today. People from all over Delhi gather at his memorial on this day. The huge number of people coming here is proof that Sahib Singh Verma holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Delhi and the country.”
Journey from farmer family to Chief Minister
Born in a farmer family in Mundka village, Delhi on March 15, 1943, Sahib Singh Verma started his political career as an RSS worker. He was elected to Delhi Municipal Corporation in 1997 on Janata Party ticket. He was re-elected in 1983 on BJP ticket. After winning the assembly elections, in 1993, Sahib Singh was made the Education and Development Minister in the Delhi Government. He became the Chief Minister of Delhi in 1996 and remained in this position for more than two and a half years. Sahib Singh has a doctorate degree in Library Sciences. (ANI)
