Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai was arrested by the police while going to Ram temple in Ayodhya. Rai alleged that he and his colleagues were being harassed and prevented from visiting the temple. He said that he had come to raise his voice against the alleged scam in the temple.
Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) [भारत]June 30 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai on Tuesday alleged that police arrested him and other party leaders while on their way to visit the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya. He claimed that he was being harassed and prevented from going to the temple.
Rai alleged that late on Monday night the police forcibly arrested him and took him to the guest house of Acharya Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology. This development has come to light at a time when Ram Temple is in the news due to alleged embezzlement of temple donations.
‘Ready to go to jail for darshan’
In a video, Rai said, “We all wanted to go to Ayodhya to seek the blessings of Lord Shri Ram. We had formed a delegation led by me to have darshan and puja. We also wanted to pray to God that this holy site has been defamed by the RSS and BJP through theft of offerings and donations as well as land scams… I and my colleagues were put under house arrest.”
They insisted that they were even ready to go to jail for exercising their right to visit the temple. He further said, “At around 11:30 pm, the police forcibly arrested us and brought us to the guest house of Acharya Narendra Dev University. We are being harassed and stopped from going to the temple… We are ready to do anything, even if it means going to jail or giving up food and water for a few days, so that we can have darshan.”
Ajay Rai’s wife targeted the government
Additionally, Ajay Rai’s wife Reena Rai alleged that the BJP government is trying to suppress her husband’s voice and asserted that the Congress will continue its fight against the alleged ‘chadhawa theft’ at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple.

In a post on X, Ajay Rai shared, “The BJP government is ready to stoop to any level to suppress my husband’s voice! After being taken away in a police jeep, now our colleagues are being misled by giving false information.” The post further reads, “Our fight against ‘Chadhawa thieves’ will continue. If anything happens to my husband, the entire responsibility for it will be on this unjust BJP government.”
Minister said- drama is happening to create controversy
Meanwhile, Minister of State Om Prakash Rajbhar said, “…this kind of drama is being done to create controversy.”
All accused in donation scam in judicial custody
On Monday, a local court in Ayodhya sent all the accused in the alleged donation scam to judicial custody for 14 days.
The court’s decision comes after a thorough investigation by the Uttar Pradesh Police into reports of financial irregularities and misuse of funds and offerings at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple. The case has sparked a major political row in Uttar Pradesh, with the ruling BJP and opposition parties blaming each other over the management of the temple’s finances while the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation continues.
