New Delhi [भारत]June 30 (ANI): Delhi leaders Pravesh Verma, Manjinder Singh Sirsa and other senior leaders attended a prayer meeting organized on Tuesday on the death anniversary of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma.
Leaders paid tribute
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta remembered Sahib Singh Verma on his death anniversary and paid emotional tribute to him, praising his dedication towards public service. CM Rekha Gupta wrote, “On the death anniversary of Revered Shri Sahib Singh Verma ji, former Chief Minister of Delhi and senior public leader, I pay my heartfelt tributes to him. His entire life was dedicated to the values of simplicity, discipline and public service. As an educationist, Chief Minister and Union Minister, he set high standards of service in public life. His thoughts and works will always remain a source of inspiration for all of us. His commitment towards the development and good governance of Delhi will always be remembered.” Will be missed.”
Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who attended the prayer meeting, also paid humble tribute to the late leader on the occasion and described him as a symbol of simplicity and good governance. Sirsa said, “On the death anniversary of Late Sahib Singh Verma Ji, former Chief Minister of Delhi, synonymous with public service, simplicity and good governance, I pay my humble tributes. Sahib Singh Verma Ji’s dedicated leadership towards the all-round development of Delhi, empowerment of rural areas and welfare of the common people will always be remembered.”
Additionally, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj paid floral tributes to the former chief minister at his memorial in the national capital.
Who was Sahib Singh Verma?
Born in a farmer family in Mundka village of Delhi on March 15, 1943, Sahib Singh Verma started his political career as an RSS worker.
He was elected to Delhi Municipal Corporation in 1997 on Janata Party ticket. He was re-elected in 1983 on BJP ticket.
After winning the assembly elections, in 1993, Sahib Singh was made the Education and Development Minister in the Delhi Government. He became the Chief Minister of Delhi in 1996 and held the post for more than two and a half years.
Sahib Singh holds a doctorate degree in Library Science. (ANI)
