What is hool day?
Hool Day is celebrated every year on 30 June to mark the Santhal rebellion. It is often considered to be one of the earliest organized rebellions against British rule, even before the rebellion of 1857.
The day is celebrated in the memory of tribal leaders Sidhu and Kanhu Murmu, who led the Santhal Hool rebellion in 1855. The main objective of this rebellion was to protest against the economic exploitation and land alienation being done by the British.
In Santhali language “Hul” means rebellion. (ANI)
