‘Mera Naseeb Hai’: Shreyas Iyer’s Father Drops Son’s Reaction After India Snub: ‘He Doesn’t Blame Anyone’

Shreyas Iyer’s snub from the Asia Cup squad took many by surprise. Iyer had a dream run in the IPL 2025 and led Punjab Kings to the final after scoring over 600 runs.

He was also India’s leading run scorer in the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year. Despite his stellar form, he couldn’t make it to the Asia Cup.

Iyer’s father, Santosh, expressed disappointment at exclusion from the squad and said that Iyer has done everything in his power to draw the selectors’ eye, and he should have been at least picked in the squad.

“I don’t know what else Shreyas has to do to make it to the Indian T20 team,” Santosh Iyer told TOI. “He has been performing so well in the IPL year after year, from Delhi Capitals to Kolkata Knight Riders to Punjab Kings, and that too as a captain.

“He even captained KKR to the IPL title in 2024 and led PBKS to the final this year. I’m not saying make him the Indian captain, but at least select him in the team,” he said.

Santosh revealed that Iyer does not show any dissent on his face, adding that deep down, however, he must be naturally disappointed.

“However, let me tell you that even if he’s left out of the Indian team, he doesn’t show any dissent on his face. He’ll just say mera naseeb hai! (It’s my luck). You can’t do anything now. He’s always cool and calm. He doesn’t blame anybody. Deep inside, he must be naturally disappointed.

Iyer To Replace Rohit Sharma As ODI Captain?

While Shreyas Iyer failed to make a cut to the Asia Cup squad, according to reports, the BCCI is mulling over handing him the leadership reins of the ODI side. With Rohit Sharma’s future uncertain, Iyer has emerged as a solid candidate to lead India. While Shubman Gill is also in the fray, given the amount of cricket India plays, it’ll be tough for him to be available for every game across formats; thus, Iyer is the frontrunner to lead the side.
