UPTET 2026 Exam Day Tips: The countdown for Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET 2026) has started. The Commission (UPESSC) has also made the admit cards live for the examination. Students can download their hall tickets by visiting the official website upessc.up.gov.in. About 20 lakh candidates are preparing to appear in this examination to be held on 2, 3 and 4 July. Often students study day and night for months, but a small carelessness of 5 minutes in the exam hall spoils all their hard work. UPTET 2026 exam is being conducted completely offline i.e. in pen-paper OMR sheet mode, hence the computer will check your copy only when you have filled the sheet correctly. In such a situation, 4 mistakes have to be avoided at all costs while filling the OMR sheet, so that your copy can be checked without any hindrance.
Mistake number 1: incompletely filling the circle
Many students do not darken the circle completely in a hurry. Make a light mark and move on to the next question. If the circle is not properly blackened due to machine checking, then the scanner is unable to read it. The result is that despite giving the correct answer, you do not get the mark. So always fill the circle with complete and uniform darkness. Tickling lightly or simply making a cross mark, both methods are considered wrong.
Mistake No. 2: Filling in two circles for one question
Many times during exams, students first fill one option, then thinking that the answer is wrong, they fill the adjacent circle also, thinking that there is no benefit in erasing it. But if more than one circle is filled in the OMR sheet, that answer is automatically considered wrong, even if one of them is correct. In such a situation, fill the circle only after being completely sure about the answer. If two circles are filled by mistake, do not expect to get marks for that question, so it is better to be careful from the beginning.
Mistake No. 3: Mistake in Roll Number or Booklet Series
This mistake sounds strange, but it is made by many candidates every year. In a hurry, students fill their roll number wrongly or forget to fill the circle of the booklet series (like A, B, C, D) given to them on the OMR sheet. This information helps the machine recognize the copy and if it goes wrong, the entire copy can be messed up. In such a situation, as soon as the exam starts, first fill the roll number and booklet series carefully and check it once again. This work should not be done in haste, but peacefully.
Mistake No. 4: Biting with whitener or pens
Some students, after filling the wrong circle, try to erase it with whitener or cross out it with a pen. The OMR sheet is machine checked, so any cutting, overwriting or use of whitener there can make the entire sheet suspicious. Never use whitener on OMR sheet. Even if a mistake is made, instead of panicking, focus on the remaining questions with a calm mind. In most exams, marks are saved to a great extent by one or two mistakes, but repeated cropping can raise questions on the entire copy.
What to do while filling OMR?
- Always use the same pen as prescribed by the exam centre.
- Before filling the answers, mark the answer in the question paper once, then fill it in the OMR without any hesitation.
- Keep the last 10-15 minutes only for checking, so that if any circle is missing, it can be filled in time.
