UP Finance Minister Suresh Khanna has attacked Samajwadi Party in the case of cough syrup containing codeine. He raised questions on the photo related to codeine mafia and claimed action under zero tolerance policy.
Amid the ongoing action against intoxicating cough syrup, allegations and counter-allegations have intensified in the politics of Uttar Pradesh. In the case of cough syrup containing codeine, State Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna has made a direct attack on the Samajwadi Party. He said that the photo of the National President of Samajwadi Party with the codeine mafia has surfaced, in such a situation, instead of giving equivocal answers, its reality should be put before the country.
Claim of major action under zero tolerance policy
While talking to journalists in Shahjahanpur on Saturday, Suresh Khanna said that under the zero tolerance policy of the Yogi government, strict action has been taken against big people. He said in clear words that whoever is found guilty in this case, strictest action will be taken under the law against him, no matter how influential he is.

Question on SP’s silence on cough syrup scandal
Attacking the Samajwadi Party, Khanna said that children died in different parts of the country due to cough syrup, but there was no sympathy or reaction from the SP on this serious issue. He alleged that there was large-scale smuggling of drugs, resulting in loss of lives, but the SP remained silent on it.
Arrested accused claim to have links with SP
The Cabinet Minister claimed that the people caught in this case have some form of connection with the Samajwadi Party. He also reiterated that the Uttar Pradesh government has already clarified that not a single death has occurred due to this cough syrup in the state. Despite this, the Yogi government took strict action in the entire matter without any delay.
Drug free Uttar Pradesh government’s goal
Suresh Khanna said that the aim of the government is to make drug-free Uttar Pradesh, just like the dream of drug-free India is being dreamed of. He told that cough syrup containing codeine is for the treatment of patients with severe cough and it should be given only on the advice of the doctor. It is mandatory for medical store operators to maintain complete records of the sale of medicines.
Smuggling took place till Nepal and Bangladesh
According to Khanna, investigation revealed that cough syrup containing codeine was smuggled on a large scale. It was sent to Nepal and Bangladesh for intoxication purposes. The medicine which was meant for the treatment of patients, became a means of intoxication. In view of this serious fact, the government got the matter investigated in depth.
SIT formed, FIR in 33 districts
The Cabinet Minister said that a special investigation team has been formed with the cooperation of FSDA and Police Department. Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) L.R. A three-member SIT headed by Kumar is investigating this entire matter. So far, FIRs have been registered against 140 firms in 33 districts under BNS and NDPS Act.
75 arrested, cough syrup worth Rs 9.42 crore seized
Suresh Khanna informed that till now 75 people have been arrested in this case. Cough syrup worth Rs 9.42 crore has been seized during the operation. Along with this, 12,65,455 bottles of cough syrup containing codeine have been recovered.
There will be more revelations as the investigation progresses.
Khanna assured that as the SIT investigation progresses, all those involved will be identified and strict action will be taken against them. He said that the government is in no mood to spare anyone and no matter which party or influence the culprit is associated with, the law will take its course.
