Revenue of Rs 193.5 crore was received in 2025-26 from the district level committees formed by the Yogi government for brick kilns. There was a 70% reduction in illegal kilns and following the NGT standards, air pollution reduced in many cities of the state.

Lucknow. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, district level committees have been formed for regulation of brick kilns in Uttar Pradesh. With this initiative, the operation of brick kilns in the state has been streamlined and effective pollution control measures have been implemented as per the standards of National Green Tribunal (NGT).

Revenue of Rs 193.5 crore in financial year 2025-26

Under the regulation of brick kilns, the state government has received an income of approximately Rs 193.5 crore as regulation fee in the financial year 2025-26. This amount not only represents a significant increase in the state’s revenue, but is also being considered a major achievement in curbing illegal activities and environmental protection.

Action against illegal brick kilns through verification campaign

A comprehensive verification campaign of brick kilns was conducted across the state through district level committees formed on the instructions of the Chief Minister. In the review meeting of the Chief Secretary, officials told that the verification committees ensured 100 percent recovery of regulation fee. Along with this, thousands of illegal brick kilns were closed and many kilns were improved to operate as per the standards.

Joint monitoring system of administration and experts

District level committees include District Officer, Additional District Officer, SDM, Pollution Control Board officials, local police and environmental experts. By coordinating all these, monitoring and verification of brick kilns has been made effective.

More than 70 percent reduction in illegal brick kilns

As a result of district level verification, more than 70 percent reduction has been recorded in the operation of illegal brick kilns in the state. This has not only improved the law and order situation, but has also reduced the adverse impact on the environment.

Control of air pollution by following NGT standards

Under the NGT guidelines, the use of zig-zag technology, tall chimneys and less polluting fuel has been made mandatory in all legal brick kilns. During verification, approximately 80 percent of the brick kilns have been certified NGT compliant, while the remaining have been given time for improvement.

Reduction in pollution levels in major cities and NCR districts

Due to strict regulation of brick kilns and adherence to NGT standards, a significant reduction in air pollution levels has been recorded in Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Agra and Uttar Pradesh districts adjoining Delhi NCR.

Important achievement towards sustainable development

While the state has got economic benefits from the successful operation of the district level committees formed for verification and regulation of brick kilns, Uttar Pradesh has also achieved an important achievement in the direction of environmental protection and sustainable development.
