PM Modi Speech in West Bengal: The political temperature in West Bengal politics rose on Saturday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government. Addressing the Parivartan Sankalp Sabha organized at Tahepur in Nadia district over phone, PM Modi termed the current situation of the state as ‘Maha Jungle Raj’ and said that corruption, nepotism and appeasement politics have stopped the development of Bengal. Appealing to the public to give a chance to BJP in the upcoming assembly elections, the Prime Minister said that Bengal now needs a ‘double engine government’, so that the Center and the state together can accelerate the pace of development.
Fog prevented landing, PM gave message by phone
Due to dense fog, the Prime Minister’s helicopter could not land at the temporary helipad in Tahepur, due to which he had to return to Kolkata Airport. However, its effect was not visible on the enthusiasm of the gathering. While addressing the people through phone, PM Modi fiercely targeted the TMC government. He said that opposing TMC and BJP is a different thing, but holding the people hostage, harassing them and stopping the progress of Bengal is not acceptable under any circumstances.
PM’s attack on ‘corruption, appeasement and nepotism’
Prime Minister Modi claimed that at present the politics of corruption, appeasement and nepotism is dominant in Bengal. He said that BJP will end this ‘Maha Jungleraj’ of TMC in Bengal. PM Modi also alleged that the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government is opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) only so that the infiltrators cannot be identified.

The Prime Minister said that now only one voice is echoing in the streets and neighborhoods of Bengal, ‘Banchte Chai, BJP Tai’ i.e. if you want to live, you need BJP. He claimed that the people of the state want freedom from the misrule of TMC and have made up their mind for change.
Gift of National Highway projects worth Rs 3200 crore
This visit of Prime Minister Modi was not only political but also related to development. According to officials, PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of two national highway projects worth about Rs 3,200 crore. These include inauguration of four-laning of Barajaguli-Krishnanagar section (66.7 km) of NH-34 in Nadia district and laying of foundation stone for four-laning of Barasat-Barajaguli section (17.6 km) in North 24 Parganas. These projects will improve connectivity from Kolkata to Siliguri, and will also provide a big boost to trade, tourism and economic activities of the state.
Bengal tour amid SIR controversy
This is PM Modi’s first visit to Bengal after the release of the draft SIR list and third in the last five months. Political tension regarding SIR is already at its peak in the state, hence this statement of the Prime Minister is considered very important from political point of view.
