Lahaul-Spiti (Himachal Pradesh) [भारत]June 30 (ANI): A flood-like situation occurred due to sudden increase in water flow in Jhalma drain in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti district on Monday afternoon, due to which a part of the road connecting to a remote area was washed away and more than 50 tourist vehicles got stuck.

Officials said the incident was caused by a sudden increase in glacier melt water, although there were no reports of any rainfall in the area.

Road repair and rescue work continues

Lahaul-Spiti Superintendent of Police Shivani Mehla said that vehicles of more than 50 tourists are stranded after the road was damaged by the overflowing drain. He said repair work is underway on the damaged portion and is expected to be completed within the next two hours. As soon as the road is restored, all the stranded tourists will be evacuated safely.

The Border Roads Organization (BRO), in coordination with the local administration, is engaged in emergency repair work, and officials have expressed confidence that connectivity will be re-established as soon as possible.

The flood-like incident occurred on Monday afternoon, disrupting traffic and temporarily cutting road connectivity in the area. Officials are closely monitoring the situation, while there are no reports of any casualties or injuries so far. (ANI)
