Pune’s sessions court has sentenced 65-year-old Bhimrao Kamble to death in the case of rape and murder of a 3-year-old girl. Describing it as ‘cold-blooded’ and ‘planned murder’, the court said that no mercy can be shown to such a person.
Special Public Prosecutor Advocate Ajay Misar said on Monday that a sessions court in Pune has sentenced Bhimrao Kamble, convicted of rape and murder of a three-year-old girl in Maharashtra’s Nasrapur village, to death.
Misr told ANI, “The accused Bhimrao Kamble has been convicted of all the crimes… The court has imposed the death sentence and delivered a 137-page verdict… The court has concluded that this is a very brutal, well-planned murder… The court said that when he is so hungry for lust at the age of 65, no mercy can be shown to such a person, and ultimately, the death sentence was awarded.”
Justice received in fast-track hearing
Senior Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural, Sandeep Singh Gill said that after investigating the case and hearing it on a fast-track basis, the court has awarded the death sentence.
Gill said, “The Nasrapur rape and murder case took place on May 1 and the FIR was registered on May 2… The accused has been awarded death sentence by the court. The court has specifically mentioned a word called ‘social conscious’ in the judgment… The public was promised that the case will be monitored on a fast-track, and the same promise has been fulfilled… Today, we have this historic verdict where the accused has been booked under three FIRs under POCSO and BNS Three death sentences have been awarded under different sections.”
The prosecution presented strong arguments
On 25 June, the Pune Court delivered a verdict of guilty, confirming that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt all charges against the accused. Following the court’s finding that the accused was guilty under all relevant sections of the Indian Judicial Code, the proceedings proceeded to the sentencing stage. After hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the complainant, the court had scheduled the final sentencing verdict for today.
Special Public Prosecutor Advocate Ajay Misar said that the prosecution team gave priority to the seriousness of the crime throughout the trial. “The matter was put up for final decision today,” Misr said. The court announced its verdict. In this judgment, the prosecution concluded that all charges against the accused have been proven beyond reasonable doubt. The court concluded that the accused was guilty under all sections of the IPC and declared him guilty.’

To emphasize the demand for maximum possible punishment, the prosecution cited 12 landmark judgments of the Supreme Court which have discussed the death penalty and the need for capital punishment for heinous crimes involving minors.
Advocate Miser said of the judicial reception of their arguments, ‘The prosecution cited in the court 12 landmark judgments of the Supreme Court which had debated the death penalty and the need for capital punishment for such crimes, and the court agreed.’ (ANI)
