After the first phase SIR before the 2026 elections in Tamil Nadu, the Election Commission released the draft voter list on Friday, December 19. Names of about 1 crore voters have been removed from the list. Maximum number of voters have been reduced in Chennai, Coimbatore, Dindigul and Kanchipuram.
Tamil Nadu SIR: Before the assembly elections to be held in Tamil Nadu in 2026, the Election Commission conducted Special Intensive Revision (SIR). After this, on Friday 19 December, the Election Commission of India has released the Integrated Draft Voter List of Tamil Nadu. According to this, after the complete process of SIR, names of about 1 crore voters of the state have been removed from the list.
Know how many names were removed from which district?
- In the draft list released by the Election Commission, the capital Chennai is at the top among the districts from where maximum names of voters have been deleted. Here, names of 14.25 lakh voters have been excluded from the voter list, due to which the total voters in the district have reduced from 40.04 lakh to 25.79 lakh.
- Under SIR, names of about 6.50 lakh voters from Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu have been removed from the voter list.
- Apart from this, names of 2.34 lakh voters were removed from Dindigul district, due to which the total number of voters reduced from 19.35 lakh to 16.09 lakh.
- Names of 79,690 voters have been removed from Karur district, after which the number of voters in the district has reduced from 8.79 lakh to 8.18 lakh. At the same time, names of 2.74 lakh voters have been deleted in Kanchipuram district.
