Historic! Jack Wildermuth, Matt Renshaw tons help Brisbane Heat pull off highest-ever run-chase in Big Bash League

New Delhi: Sensational centuries from Jack Wildermuth and Matt Renshaw helped Brisbane Heat pull-off the highest-ever run-chase in the history of Big Bash League (BBL) on Friday. Chasing a mammoth target of 258 set by Perth Scorchers, Heat completed the chase with a ball to spare as Wildermuth (110 not out) and Renshaw (102) displayed fierce batting skills at The Gabba in Brisbane.

Interestingly, both the lethal batters smashed 9 sixes and 5 boundaries each in their respectively knocks which pushed the Scorchers against the wall completely. More than 500 runs were scored in 39.5 overs which is rarely witnessed in the shortest format of the game and especially the Big Bash League.

While Wildermuth remained unbeaten on 110 off 54 balls guiding his side home, Renshaw was equally fierce putting up 102 on the board off just 51 balls. Max Bryant was retired hurt after scoring 28 runs off 15 balls while the Scorchers side managed to take just a lone wicket of Colin Munro for a duck as he was sent back to the pavilion off the first delivery by Jhye Richardson.

Third-highest chase in T20 cricket

While it was the highest run-chase in the history of the BBL, it became the third highest run-chase overall in the history of T20 cricket. Punjab Kings’ 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024 happens to be the highest chase in the format followed by South Africa’s 259 against West Indies in a T20I match in 2023.
