Former Governor of Mizoram and Puducherry, Lieutenant General MM Lakheda (Retd.) has passed away. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Seth expressed grief over his demise and paid tribute to him. Lakheda also played an important role in the army.
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [भारत]June 29 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday expressed deep grief over the demise of former Mizoram and Puducherry Governor Lieutenant General MM Lakheda (Retd) and paid tribute to his distinguished services to the nation.
Dhami said in a post on He further said, “We pray to God to give place to the blessed soul at His feet and to give strength to the bereaved family to bear this unbearable grief.”
At the same time, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Seth also expressed his condolences on the demise of former Governor of Mizoram and Puducherry, Lieutenant General MM Lakheda (retd). He said that his invaluable contribution to the development of the nation while serving Mother India as an accomplished military officer and subsequently holding constitutional posts will always be remembered.
The Rajya Sabha MP wrote in a post on Instagram, “The news of the demise of Lieutenant General (Retd) MM Lakheda ji, former Governor of Mizoram and Puducherry, is extremely heart-wrenching. His service to Mother India as an accomplished military officer and his invaluable contribution to the development of the nation while holding constitutional posts thereafter will always be remembered. I pray to God to rest his soul in peace and may the bereaved family bear this immense grief.” Give me the strength to endure.”
Lakheda’s military and political career was brilliant.
Lieutenant General MM Lakheda (Retd) served as the Governor of Mizoram and Puducherry after an illustrious career in the Indian Army. Born on October 21, 1937, in Patti Barjula, Jakhand village of Tehri Garhwal, Lakheda took part in the Goa operation in 1961 and the India-Pakistan wars of 1965 and 1971 in the Jammu and Kashmir sector. He took over as the Lieutenant Governor and Administrator of Puducherry on July 07, 2004. He was the first person to hold the post of Governor from Garhwal division. As Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, he played a key role in the post-tsunami relief and rehabilitation operations, personally monitoring the progress and ensuring effective assistance to the affected people. He was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands with additional charge and was administered the oath of office and secrecy on November 29, 2005, making him the ninth Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He took over as the Governor of Mizoram on July 25, 2006. On assuming charge, he visited all the district headquarters to understand the grassroots level issues and familiarize himself with public concerns. (ANI)
