The two-day Ramgarh Mahotsav-2026, which has become the historical and cultural identity of Surguja, was grandly inaugurated on the first day of the month of Ashadh. While inaugurating the festival, Tourism and Culture Minister Rajesh Aggarwal said that Ramgarh is an invaluable cultural and literary heritage not only of Surguja but of the entire country. He expressed confidence that this event will give a new identity to regional tourism. A unique confluence of folk culture, history, archeology and literature was seen on the first day of the festival. Colorful presentations by school children and local artists enthralled the audience, while the grand Ramlila by the artists from New Delhi was the center of attraction.
Ramgarh will get a new identity
Tourism Minister Rajesh Aggarwal said that the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai is continuously working for the conservation and promotion of cultural heritage. He said that the aim of the government is to establish Ramgarh not only on the national but also on the international tourism map. He also informed that this year Ramgarh Mahotsav has completed 50 years, which is an important milestone in the cultural journey of the state.
Tourists will come face to face with historical heritage
During the festival, tourists will be taken on tour to Sitabengra Cave, Jogimara Cave, Ramgarh mountain range and other historical places. History and archeology experts will give information about the importance of these sites, so that the new generation can better understand their heritage.
Chief Minister will be the chief guest of the closing ceremony
Minister Rajesh Aggarwal informed that Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai will attend the closing ceremony of the festival as the chief guest. MP Chintamani Maharaj said that it is believed that Lord Shri Ram had spent time in Ramgarh area during his exile. At the same time, due to the beliefs related to the composition of ‘Meghdootam’ by the great poet Kalidas, this area holds special importance from historical and literary point of view.
Tourism and local culture will get a boost
The district administration says that Ramgarh Mahotsav will become a medium to give a national platform to local artists, folk culture and tribal traditions. This will give a new impetus to tourism activities in the area and the historical identity of Surguja will reach the country and the world.
