A software engineer from Bengaluru shared details of her monthly expenses of ₹71 thousand. The post sparked a debate on social media over the cost of living in the city.
Bengaluru Monthly Expenses: Bengaluru is counted among the most expensive cities in India, especially for the youth working in the IT and tech sector. Here the expenses on rent, food, travel and lifestyle may vary from person to person. Meanwhile, a software engineer living in Bengaluru has shared her entire month’s expenses on social media, after which discussion has started on it. He said that in the month of May, he spent around ₹71,000 including rent, food, shopping, travel and other lifestyle expenses.
Shared complete monthly budget in Instagram video
Anjali, a software engineer working at Atlassian, shared a video on Instagram. Describing herself as a “corporate girl living in Bengaluru”, she detailed her entire month’s budget. Anjali says that the monthly expense of around ₹ 71,000 for living in a big city like Bengaluru does not seem too much to her.
Biggest expense is rent and maintenance
According to Anjali, her biggest expense of the month is the rent and maintenance of her 1BHK flat. The rent in this is ₹ 28,000 and the cost of electricity and water is ₹ 1,000. He told that living expenses alone constitute a major part of his monthly budget.
How much do you spend on food and groceries?
Anjali told that breakfast and lunch facility is available in her office from Monday to Friday. Therefore their expenditure on food remains relatively low. However, dinner cook fees: ₹3,000 per month, grocery expenses: ₹3,000 to ₹4,000 per month. Apart from this, there is also the cost of internet and other facilities. The company provides cabs for commuting to the office, which reduces the transportation cost significantly. Apart from this, the services on which Anjali spends around ₹ 3,000 every month also include gym membership, Wi-Fi and RO water service.
A lot of money spent on traveling and shopping
According to Anjali, a major part of her budget is spent on lifestyle and entertainment. Eating out, weekend activities and shopping cost ₹12,000 to ₹15,000, he said. Apart from this, short trips of 3-4 days: ₹ 15,000 to ₹ 20,000 are spent. This means that a good amount of money is spent every month on traveling and fulfilling hobbies. After adding all these expenses, Anjali told that her total monthly expenditure in the month of May was approximately ₹ 71,000.
Mixed reactions on social media
After Anjali’s video went viral, people gave different opinions on social media. Some people said that this much expenditure is excessive, while many users believe that this budget is normal in a city like Bengaluru.
Someone advised investment, while someone advised the expenditure to be justified.
One user wrote, “Many of these expenses are not necessary. It would be better to spend less on expensive brands, luxury lifestyle and shopping and invest in things like a house, plot, US stocks or professional certification. This will yield benefits in the future.” At the same time, another user wrote, “In Bengaluru, the entire salary of many people is only as much as their monthly expenses.” Another user jokingly said, “Monthly expenses of ₹71 thousand in Bengaluru? And I withdraw the entire month in ₹10 thousand.”
There was also discussion regarding rent in Bengaluru
Another person supported Anjali’s spending, writing, “I have lived in Bengaluru and this budget seems very realistic to me. ₹28k rent is normal for a 1BHK in a good location. Location matters a lot. I now live in a tier-3 city with my parents, yet my personal monthly expenditure is around ₹50k.” This video of Anjali has now become a matter of debate on social media. Some people are considering this as a glimpse of rising inflation in Bengaluru, while some say that the expenditure completely depends on the lifestyle and priorities of the person.
