The State Investigation Agency (SIA) has filed a 737-page charge sheet in the murder of nurse Sarla Bhat in 1990. In this, 5 people including the then JKLF chief Yasin Malik have been accused of kidnapping, torture and murder.

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [भारत]June 29 (ANI): The State Investigation Agency (SIA), Kashmir, has filed a 737-page charge sheet in the court of Additional Sessions Judge designated under the NIA Act in Srinagar in connection with the abduction, torture and brutal murder of Sarla Bhat, a staff nurse at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS). Bhat was assassinated by Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) terrorists on April 18, 1990.

5 people including Yasin Malik accused

According to SIA, the investigation has revealed the involvement of the then Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) commander Mohammad Yasin Malik as well as Khurshid Ahmed Chalkoo, Abdul Hameed Shaikh, Mohammad Yusuf Sofi alias Idris and Ghulam Mohammad Taplu in planning and executing the abduction and murder. The agency further said that Abdul Hameed Shaikh, Mohammad Yusuf Sofi alias Idris and Ghulam Mohammad Taplu have died, while Yasin Malik is currently in judicial custody in another case.

“Investigation has revealed the involvement of the then JKLF Chief Commander Mohammad Yasin Malik along with Khurshid Ahmed Chalkoo, Abdul Hameed Shaikh, Mohammad Yusuf Sofi alias Idris and Ghulam Mohammad Taplu in planning and executing the abduction and brutal murder,” SIA said.

Legal action against absconding accused

The agency said legal proceedings, including proclamation proceedings, have been initiated against absconding accused Khurshid Ahmed Chalkoo, who allegedly opened fire and is believed to have infiltrated into Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. SIA said that further legal proceedings in the matter will continue as per law. (ANI)
