According to the statement of Delhi Chief Minister Office (CMO), this policy will come into effect from July 1, 2026 and will run till March 31, 2030. It is designed to promote zero-emission mobility, including funding, expansion of infrastructure and rules for a gradual shift to EVs for different types of vehicles.

100% tax exemption on buying a new car

Under this policy, you will get 100% rebate on road tax and registration fees on purchasing electric vehicles. This benefit will also be applicable on four-wheelers up to Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). Benefits on purchasing a vehicle include a discount of up to Rs 30,000 on electric two-wheelers, up to Rs 50,000 on electric three-wheelers and up to Rs 1 lakh on N1 goods vehicles. Apart from this, scrapping incentive ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 1 lakh will also be given for replacing old and polluting vehicles with electric models.

Subsidy money directly into customer’s bank account

Petrol and diesel vehicles will be closed in Delhi

  • There is also a rule in the policy to gradually stop registration of petrol and diesel vehicles. From January 1, 2027, only electric three-wheelers and N1 freight vehicles will be registered, while from April 1, 2028, only electric two-wheelers will be registered.
  • The statement further said, “Delhi EV Policy 2026 reflects the government’s commitment to clean air, green mobility and create a future-ready Delhi, making sustainable transportation more accessible to every citizen.”
