Which 1 mistake can lead to a loss of ₹1 lakh?

In the new policy, Delhi government has kept a bumper scrapping bonus of Rs 1 lakh for car buyers, but you will not get this benefit unless you take care of the timing. If you have an old BS-IV or even older petrol or diesel vehicle gathering dust at home, then get a certificate to give it as scrap. You will have to buy a new electric car costing less than Rs 30 lakh within exactly 6 months of scrapping your old car. Even if you put in 6 months and 1 day, the government will not give you this bonus of ₹ 1 lakh. This is the big mistake that people often make by delaying the paperwork.

Will there be loss if buying an electric bike or scooter late?

The government has implemented this system not only for cars but also for those buying two-wheelers i.e. scooters or motorcycles. If you are thinking of buying an electric scooter comfortably in the next year or so, then you will be at a big loss. If you choose an electric bike or scooter worth up to Rs 2.25 lakh now i.e. in the first year of the policy, you will get a full subsidy of Rs 30,000. This subsidy will reduce to only Rs 20,000 in the second year and only Rs 10,000 in the third year. That means, the more you delay, the less money the government will give for your car.

How much is being saved on road tax and registration in Delhi?

If you are planning to buy any new electric car in a budget of up to Rs 30 lakh, then there is a great offer for you till March 2030. The government is completely waiving the road tax and registration fee of your vehicle i.e. zero. If you buy a hybrid car, that is, a car that runs on both petrol and battery, then you will get half (50%) of the benefit of this tax exemption.
