When are petrol bikes and scooters being banned in Delhi?
The government has set a strict law and date for this. Two-wheelers (bikes and scooters) account for almost two-thirds of the total vehicles plying on Delhi roads. After April 1, 2028, registration of any new petrol bike or scooter will be completely stopped in Delhi. This means that after this date, you will not be able to buy a new petrol-powered two-wheeler in Delhi even if you want, only electric (EV) option will be left. The ban on new autos running on petrol and CNG will come into effect even earlier i.e. from January 1, 2027. After this only electric autos can be registered.
What is the new rule for Swiggy, Zomato and Ola-Uber in Delhi?
If you or any of your friends do delivery or ride-sharing work on platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, Ola or Uber, then the government has made the strictest rules for them. Now no new petrol or diesel bikes and light commercial vehicles are being included in the fleet of these companies. The vehicles (BS-6 models) already in service will also have to be converted to electric by the end of 2026. That means the entire system of delivery and cabs is going to be completely silent and electric very soon.
How much subsidy will you get on buying a new electric bike or scooter in Delhi?
The government is also giving huge subsidy to the public for this change, but there is a big problem here. ‘The longer you delay, the more you will regret.’ The government has prepared a sliding scale for subsidy.
Year 1: If you buy an electric bike or scooter worth up to ₹2.25 lakh, you will get a direct subsidy of ₹10,000 per kWh up to a maximum of ₹30,000.
Second year (Year 2): This subsidy will be reduced to a maximum of ₹ 20,000.
Year 3: By the third year, the government will give a subsidy of only ₹ 10,000.
What are the benefits for electric car buyers in Delhi and how will they get the bonus of ₹ 1 lakh?
If you are planning to buy an electric car or hybrid car, then there is a big offer for you till March 2030. Road tax and registration fees have been completely waived off (₹0) on any electric car up to ₹30 lakh. Hybrid cars will get half the discount. If you have an old BS-IV (or older) car, then scrap it. If you buy a new electric car for less than ₹30 lakh within 6 months of scrapping the car, you will get a direct scrapping bonus of ₹1 lakh on top of the tax exemption.
