Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday released a new framework of financial powers (DFP-2026) for DRDO. Its objective is to ensure efficiency, accountability and timely completion of work in strategic R&D projects, which will promote self-reliance in the defense sector.

New Delhi [भारत]June 29 (ANI): Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday issued the Delegation of Financial Powers (DFP-2026) to DRDO. This is a major improvement in the efficiency, accountability and timely completion of strategic research and development (R&D) projects.

According to an official release of the Defense Ministry, the Defense Minister said that DFP-2026 will help in faster production of systems, platforms and technologies emerging from the R&D ecosystem and induction into the defense forces. He said that this new framework will promote stronger collaboration with industry and academia, thereby strengthening the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. He further said that the revised framework will contribute to enhancing self-reliance in defense technologies and strengthening the defense preparedness of the country.

What is the objective of DFP-2026?

DFP-2026 aims to substantially enhance the functional empowerment at various levels within the Department of Defense Research and Development. The release said the revised framework addresses several important needs. This includes dedicated financial provisions for trial campaigns, tests and evaluation activities, authority to approve pre-project R&D initiatives, and clear division of financial powers for grants related to Extra-Mural Research Projects, Defense Innovation Accelerator-Centres of Excellence and Technology Development Fund projects under the respective schedules.
