Ontario has scrapped its existing employer-driven immigration streams and replaced them with a single Ontario Workforce Priority program from June 26, 2026. The change also pauses new provincial nominations, with fresh applications expected to begin only after the Expression of Interest (EOI) system reopens in July or August.
For foreign nationals planning to settle in Canada through Ontario’s provincial nomination route, this means starting over if they were waiting in the EOI pool without receiving an invitation.
Old EOIs Cancelled, New Applications Required
Ontario has temporarily shut its EOI system while it rolls out the new framework. Any EOI that did not receive an invitation has now been withdrawn, and no further invitations will be issued under the old streams.
Once the system reopens, applicants must submit a new EOI, while employers will also need to file fresh job offers through the updated Employer Portal.
