Under the ‘Soil to Silk’ vision of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a Center of Excellence is being created in the UP Silk Directorate. This center will promote silk production, sales, training and employment.
Lucknow. To implement Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s ‘Soil to Silk’ vision, the Silk Directorate of Uttar Pradesh is constructing a Center of Excellence in its office premises. This centre, which is being built at a cost of about Rs 75 lakh, is being prepared rapidly and its construction work is likely to be completed by the end of this month. This initiative will not only give a new identity to the traditional silk industry of the state but will also create new employment opportunities.
Center of Excellence will take the silk industry to new heights
The Center of Excellence being built in the Silk Directorate will give a new direction to the silk industry of Uttar Pradesh. In this centre, the entire process of silk production will be displayed in a lively manner in the form of ‘Soil to Silk’. Here the entire journey from farmers to artisans will be shown, through which people will be able to understand the production and processing of silk closely.
There will be a live demonstration of the entire process of silk production.
The Center of Excellence will explain how silkworms for mulberry and tussar silk are reared on mulberry and arjuna trees. After this, the entire process of extracting silk from the cocoon, making thread and then spinning the silk on handloom and power loom will be demonstrated. This center will provide information about both traditional and modern techniques related to silk production.
There will also be facility for sale of excellent silk products
Arrangements are also being made for the sale of the best silk products of the state in the Center of Excellence. Till now these products were mostly sent abroad through export, but now they will be available in the local and domestic markets also. This will help the artisans to get better market and fair prices.
Silk products of Varanasi, Bhadohi and Mirzapur will be the center of attraction.
Assistant Directors of Silk Directorate, Nirendra Kumar and Ashutosh said that an attractive display of excellent silk products of the state will be done here. This will include-
- Famous Silk Sarees of Varanasi
- Bhadohi Brocade
- Tussar Silk Products of Mirzapur
- Handloom textiles from other districts
A sales center is also being built, where tourists and buyers will be able to buy products directly from local artisans. Apart from this, a changing room is also being constructed.
The new center will be equipped with modern technology
The Center of Excellence will be equipped with modern technology. Facility of interactive display, workshop and training center will be available here. Farmers will be given scientific information from silkworm rearing to processing, so that both the quality and income of production can increase.
Problems of silk artisans will be solved
Although Uttar Pradesh is one of the leading states in the country in terms of silk production, but due to lack of marketing, local challenges and lack of awareness, the artisans are not able to get fair prices. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, these problems will be solved through Mukhyamantri Resham Vikas Yojana and Center of Excellence.
Tourism, employment and rural economy will get a boost
Guided tours and workshops will also be organized for tourists in this centre, which will increase interest in silk industry among the youth. This initiative will not only help in employment generation but will also play an important role in preserving the rural economy, traditional enterprises and cultural heritage of the state.
