New Delhi/Dehradun: The country had not yet recovered from the shock of the sudden demise of Indian shooting legend Jaspal Rana on June 12. Rana, 49, one of India’s greatest pistol shooters, died of cardiac arrest. His last rites were performed in Varanasi. Rana’s family had not yet recovered from this grief when another big tragedy happened in the house. Jaspal Rana’s mother Shyama Devi Rana, who was undergoing cancer treatment, has passed away in Delhi. The entire family is devastated by the mother’s departure just a few days after the son’s death.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief
Shyama Devi died on 28 June at RR Hospital in New Delhi. The surprising thing is that the day he died was the birthday of his son Jaspal. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami shared this sad news on his ‘X’ (Twitter) account. Earlier on June 17, the news of his death had also come, but the family had declared it wrong.
CM Dhami wrote in his post, “Received the extremely sad news of the demise of the revered Mataji of Shri Narayan Singh Rana ji and the famous Indian shooter, Padmashree Late Jaspal Rana ji. My deepest condolences are with the bereaved family in this difficult time. May God grant the pious soul a place in his holy feet and give the family the strength to bear this irreparable loss. Jaspal Rana’s last rites were performed with full state honours.
Earlier, on June 14, hundreds of people had gathered with emotional hearts to bid farewell to Jaspal Rana at Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi. His mortal remains were brought to Varanasi via air ambulance from Dehradun. This icon of the shooting world was saluted with full state honors before the funeral.
When his mortal remains reached Varanasi’s Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, many dignitaries paid tribute to him. The body was kept in the air cargo complex of the airport for public viewing. After this, the body was taken by ambulance to Rajghat and then to Manikarnika Ghat via the court complex. There Jaspal’s son Yuvraj completed the last rites by lighting the funeral pyre. On this occasion, Jaspal’s brother Subhash, other family members, celebrities from the shooting world and hundreds of common people were present. Several political leaders, including Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s son and BJP MLA Pankaj Singh and Minister of State Shankar Giri, also attended the funeral.
