Chandigarh batters failed to put their best as the city team went down by an innings and 113 runs against Uttar Pradesh in the ongoing Vijay Merchant Trophy being held in Shimoga.
Batting first, Chandigarh batters were bundled out for 152, and in reply, Uttar Pradesh posted 386/8 before declaring their innings. In their second innings, Chandigarh lads again ended up giving a poor performance and were packed at 121.
In the first innings, four Chandigarh batters failed to open their account. Opener Vedansh Kalkhanday remained the sole run scorer for the side, as he posted 45 off 172 balls with six boundaries. Ishant Rawat posted 38 off 77 balls, with six boundaries, was the other notable scorer and the two recorded the highest 69-run partnership of the Chandigarh innings. Krishna Yadav was the pick of the bowlers, as he picked 4/14, while Prithviraj Singh and Ritaz Malik picked two wickets each. Rudra Sharma also picked one.
In reply, Uttar Pradesh innings was held by Arush Gupta, the middle-order batter who posted 157 off 253 balls, with 19 boundaries and two sixes. Ayansh Sanu (80 off 201 balls, with 11 boundaries) was involved in a 141-run stand with Gupta. Anay Awasthi (50 off 49 balls), Hitesh Kumar (33 off 52 balls) and Aalok Kumar (30 off 51 balls) were the other notable scorers for the side. Yashjeet Singh (4/77) was the leading wicket taker for the bowling side, while Yuvraaj Bhardwaj picked two. Shubham Dhiman and Rawat claimed one each.
In the second innings, the city batters repeated their performance and failed again. Rawat (77 off 96 balls, with 13 boundaries and one six) and Dhiman (30) were the two main run getters for the side. Rudra returned with 6/37, while Darsh picked 2/27 for the bowling side. Pritviraj and Krishna shared one wicket each.
Jharkhand eves win
Jharkhand registered a convincing six-wicket victory over Chandigarh in their Women’s U-19 One Day Trophy match in Lucknow. After winning the toss, Chandigarh opted to bat first and were bowled out for 168 in 49 overs. Skipper Taisha Manchanda led from the front by posting 79 off 113 balls, including 10 boundaries and a six. Aahan Vaid (25) remained unbeaten for the side. Vrishti Kumari (3/19) and Bhumika (3/24) shared wickets for the bowling side.
In reply, Jharkhand chased down the target comfortably by scoring 171/4 in 41.5 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Gurleen Kaur anchored the innings with an impressive unbeaten 81. She was well supported by captain Priyanka Luthra (23). Tarunika claimed two wickets for Chandigarh.
Earlier, Himachal Pradesh registered a 106-run victory over Chandigarh in the opening encounter. Himachal Pradesh posted 291/6 in 50 overs, wherein Ahaana Sharma scored 120 off 80 balls, with 18 boundaries and four sixes, to trouble Chandigarh bowlers. Kanu Priya posted 69 off 97 balls to raise a 90-run stand with Ahaana. The batter was involved in another important partnership of 126-runs with skipper Dhanya J Laxmi (44 off 59 balls). Taisha Manchanda (3/34) remained the main wicket taker for the bowling side. In reply, Chandigarh batters were all-out for 185.
