Weather spoils the game in the capital, 60 flights canceled from Delhi Airport amid dense fog, 250 delayed

228 flights canceled at Delhi airport

The country’s capital Delhi was seen wrapped in a blanket of dense fog on Monday morning. This dense winter fog has badly affected public life as well as air traffic. Due to low visibility, dozens of flights had to be canceled from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, while hundreds of flights were delayed from their scheduled time.

More than 60 flights cancelled, more than 250 late

Due to very low visibility in the morning, more than 60 flights had to be canceled from Delhi Airport. Apart from this, about 250 flights were operated late. Some flights even had to be diverted to other cities due to security reasons. Due to this, passengers had to face a lot of trouble and had to wait for a long time at the airport.

Airlines have already issued warnings

In view of the dense fog, many airlines including Indigo, Air India, SpiceJet had issued advisories for passengers. Airlines had clearly said that flight cancellation and delay is possible due to bad weather. Passengers were advised to check the status of their flight before reaching the airport.

Most flights of Indigo and Air India affected

Indigo canceled 36 flights related to Delhi due to bad weather. Air India also had to cancel 19 flights. Air India said that due to low visibility it was not possible to operate the flights safely, hence this decision was taken keeping in mind the safety of the passengers.

Operation gradually became normal

As the day progressed, there was a slight improvement in the situation. After noon, Delhi Airport Administration informed that visibility on the runway is improving and flight operations are gradually returning to normal. However, it was also said that some flights may still be affected.

Relief to flights with CAT III system

The Airport Authority said that the planes which have CAT III system can do safe landing and takeoff even in very low visibility. The flights which did not have this facility were more affected by the fog. This was the reason why many flights were stopped or cancelled.

Why was it more affected?

Delhi Airport is the busiest airport in the country, where there are about 1,300 flight movements daily. In such a situation, even a little weather disturbance affects the entire system. With the onset of winter, the problem of fog may increase further in the coming days.
