Magh Mela 2026 Prayagraj: ‘Magh Mela’ (Magh Mela 2026) organized every year in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh is very important religiously, spiritually and culturally. This year too, Magh Mela 2026 is going to be organized on the banks of the holy confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and the legendary Saraswati. Magh Purnima 2026: When is ‘Akshay Yoga’ of bathing?
The full moon day of Magh month is considered very sacred. It is believed that by taking bath in the Sangam on this day, a person attains eternal virtue, that is, that virtue never gets destroyed. According to the Panchang, the holy bath of Magh Purnima will take place on February 1, 2026. On this day, a great combination of charity, bath and meditation is formed. It is said in religious texts that on the day of Maghi Purnima, the gods come to earth and take bath in the Sangam. Donating a vessel filled with Ganga water on this day is also considered very auspicious and fruitful.
Magh Mela 2026, when till when?
Magh Mela 2026 will begin with the holy bath of Paush Purnima and conclude on the day of Mahashivratri. This entire time is dedicated to Kalpavas.
- Start of Magh Mela 2026: From January 3, 2026.
- Completion: February 15, 2026 with Mahashivratri.
First Holy Bath: According to the Panchang, Paush Purnima Tithi will start at 6.54 pm on January 2 and will continue till 3.32 pm on January 3. The first holy bath of the fair will take place on Sunday, January 3. On this day, thousands of devotees will mark the religious beginning of Magh Mela by taking a dip in the Sangam.
Main bathing dates of Magh Mela (2026)
During this period, this fair gives a completely spiritual color to Prayagraj and religious events are held every day on the banks of Sangam, due to which one gets to see the flavor of Mahakumbh. Taking a dip on these dates is considered especially fruitful.
- 3 January Paush Purnima: With the dip on this day, one month long Kalpvas and Magh Mela begins.
- On 15th January, Makar Sankranti, dip has special significance on this day when the sun turns Uttarayan. It is also called the day of the gods.
- 18 January Mauni Amavasya is considered the most important bathing date. This is the day of destruction of sins and silent meditation.
- 23 January Basant Panchami: On this day Mother Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, is worshipped. This is the starting day of art, music and knowledge.
- 1st February Maghi Purnima is the best day of charity and bathing, which is considered very sacred. On this day one attains eternal virtue.
- This grand fair formally ends on 15th February, Mahashivaratri with Shiva worship and holy bath.
Importance of Kalpavas
Magh Mela is also known as ‘Kalpvas’. The devotees who stay on the banks of Sangam for this entire month are called Kalpavasi. People doing Kalpvas sleep on the ground for a month, eat food once a day and remain engrossed in religious rituals while observing celibacy. It is believed that by doing Kalpvas a person can get freedom from the cycle of birth and death and attains salvation.
