Many new revelations have come to light in the police investigation into the case of alleged distribution of poisonous capsules during the Muharram procession in Byculla, Mumbai. Interrogation of accused Faiyaz is going on.
Muharram Capsule Case: Many new information have come to light during the investigation into the case of allegedly distributing poisonous capsules pretending to be painkillers during the Muharram procession in Mumbai’s Byculla area. According to sources, accused Faiyaz Premji presented his activity to the people as a “noble work” and also took the help of some other people on the same pretext. He was arrested during the Yom-e-Ashura procession on Friday. It is alleged that the capsules which he was distributing among the people as pain relievers and immunity enhancers, were allegedly found to contain zinc phosphide, i.e. rat poison.
Police investigation revealed a case of 30 thousand capsules and 50 kg poison
During investigation, the police came to know that the accused had allegedly ordered around 30,000 capsules and 50 kg of poison. According to sources, during interrogation he allegedly claimed that he wanted to harm around 15,000 people through these capsules. However, this claim has not been officially confirmed by the investigating agencies yet and the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
Preparation by staying in Mumbai for 15 days
According to sources, Faiyaz Premji came to Mumbai from Pune about 15 days ago. It is being told that he was staying in Hotel Sun Dormitory located in Dongri for the last two weeks. Police believe that during this time he allegedly prepared the entire plan and prepared the capsules. Police have recovered around 14,900 capsules from him, which he allegedly wanted to distribute among the people.
Capsules were being distributed with the help of others
Investigation also revealed that the accused realized that he could not deliver the capsules to so many people alone. For this reason he also included some other people in it. According to sources, he gave them the capsules to distribute, saying it was a “noble cause”.
Many people’s health deteriorated after consuming capsules
In this case, Salman Syed and Ali Abbas Syed were among the 11 people whose health allegedly deteriorated after taking the capsules. Salman Syed told that a woman had given him this pill. He claimed that the woman had given the same capsules to her children also. Meanwhile, Ali Abbas Syed says that he was told that it is a vitamin supplement.
Case opened due to alertness of women volunteers
The entire incident came to light when three women volunteers present in the procession found the method of distributing capsules suspicious. He opened a capsule and found a powder-like substance. After this he immediately informed the police. Considering the seriousness of the situation, an appeal was made to the people through loudspeakers not to take any pills. After this the distribution of the capsules was stopped and the police arrested the accused from his hotel.
What did the neighbors tell about the accused?
Faiyaz Premji is a resident of Konark Nagar Township, Viman Nagar, Pune. According to the information, his father owns a paint factory, while his mother and sister live in Iran. It is reported that he also went to Iran and Iraq last year, where he worked for one or two months. According to the information, he had made a total of 19 foreign trips between 2019 and 2025. After returning to India, he started helping his father in his business. When the media reached his colony, some neighbors claimed that his mental balance had been affected after the separation from his wife. These are claims by local people and have not been independently verified.
Under which section was the case registered?
A case has been registered against Faiyaz Premji at Byculla police station under section 123 of the Indian Judicial Code (BNS). This section deals with causing harm by means of poison or other noxious substance with intent to commit an offence. The police is now investigating this entire matter from many aspects. According to officials, it is being ascertained whether the accused did all this alone or some other person or group was also involved. Also, investigation into all possible aspects including any possible terrorist connection is ongoing.
